BATTLE OF MILL SPRINGS
Make your plans to attend the Battle of Mill Springs, to be held the weekend of September 29-30, 2007, in Nancy, Kentucky.

This will be a national event; one which will bring several thousand participants with infantry, cavalry, and full-scale artillery together for a weekend of living history.

Site
The reenactment site includes the present Mill Springs Battlefield property, along with adjacent privately owned land totaling approximately 600 acres, all of which is original ground on which this 1862 battle was fought. Located 8 miles west of Somerset, KY in south central Kentucky, there is easy access from all major interstate highways.

Special Activities
Every effort is being made to make this a memorable and enjoyable experience for the reenactors. Civilian activities are planned, and a Camp Dance with live period music will be held on Saturday evening. Historical units will be portrayed, and troops will march and fight over the exact same ground doing the same evolutions as the Armies did in 1862. This is potentially to full scale, having the same number of troops that actually fought in segments of the original battle. On Friday night, the Western Brigade is planning to march out and campaign camp on the spot where the 10th Indiana actually camped, and then march into battle on Saturday. Additionally, there will be opportunities for reenactors to participate in candle light tours for the public on Saturday evening.

Camps/Quartermaster Stores
There will be authentic camps for the military and a separate civilian camp. Camps will be clearly marked on the site detail map. The usual amenities will be provided by the sponsor (water and firewood). Each horse will be given one bale of hay for the weekend. A special period ration bag will be given to each participant. Troop straw will be available to purchase on-site at camp from a local farmer for $3.00 per bale. Area shortages have compelled the sponsor to sell troop bedding to help offset costs. Quantities of troop firewood will be placed in battalion camp areas based on the numbers registered in each battalion. It will be the responsibility of each battalion staff to manage the equitable distribution of quartermaster stores. Remember, this is an early War battle. To be authentic for this time period, both armies were using large wall tents, Sibleys, and any canvas they could find. Camps were set up in company streets in the fields. For those that want to camp campaign-style, there is an area set aside in the woods in all camps.

Area Lodging/Campgrounds
For participants who camp “modern” there are 1100 hotel rooms in Somerset, KY and campgrounds available. For information on area lodging, campgrounds, and local attractions, contact the Somerset-Pulaski County Convention and Visitors Bureau at 1-800-642-6287 or by visiting Lake Cumberland Tourism.

Preservation
This event promises to provide the reenactor and the public a unique experience, however, a key aspect of this event is Historic Preservation. This is a non-profit event, and all proceeds from the event are earmarked for preserving the Mill Springs Battlefield. The proceeds will exclusively be devoted to purchasing this endangered battlefield.
